Pastor Johnathan Mayhew preached this sermon in 1750 in which he espouses the cause of liberty and the right and duty to resist tyranny. In 1818,  John Adams identified Mayhew and this sermon as having “great influence in the commencement of the Revolution.” The power of this sermon reverberates down the corridors of history as the language of this sermon made its way not only into several of the founding State Constitutions, that language is preserved in them to this day. Pastor David Whitney re-preached this historic sermon at a gathering in Atlanta, Georgia.
