Michael Medved Continues To Name-Call, Smear Constitution Party Revealing His Own Godless, Failed Vision

There he goes again. On a recent edition of his nationally-syndicated radio show, Michael Medved, who refers to the Constitution Party as “the constipation party,” said it was “insane” to join/support the C.P. which he called a “religious cult” where there are those who “drink Kool-Aid” and therefore are “irrelevant” and “childish.”

Medved told a caller that if he didn’t like the two parties then get to work, roll up your sleeves and change them. When he was asked why he was against the C.P. which is closer to his own conservative views, Medved replied because you can’t change the direction of the government by voting for a party that gets one-fourth of one percent of the vote in national elections.

Medved said the C.P. is a party “that’s only helped to give us more liberal representation in Congress.” He said the C.P. has nominated people “on the fringe” like Howard Phillips and Michael Peroutka.

Medved reiterated that conservatives should work within “the process” (the Democrat and Republican Parties) and not be “delusional, demented, jerks” by turning to the Constitution Party.

And this is not the first time Michael Medved has engaged such vicious name-calling and personal attacks about the Constitution Party. When CP Presidential candidate Michael Anthony Peroutka was his guest last year, he was absolutely clueless as to the value of doing one’s duty and trusting the outcome to God. Over and over, Medved wondered: What was the point of his campaign? What was he accomplishing? How would the Constitution Party be good for America? Truly this was one of those times when if an individual asks such questions, he will never understand the answers. He just didn’t get it.

MICHAEL PEROUTKA: By God’s grace did what was right even if it meant being viciously attacked by those without understanding like Medved.MICHAEL PEROUTKA: By God’s grace did what was right even if it meant being viciously attacked by those without understanding like Medved.

Why was it so puzzling that Michael Peroutka would fight for what he thought and knew was right, what — by God’s grace — Michael knew was right in the areas of God, family, the Republic?

What was Michael accomplishing? Well, as he often said: “Every day that I fight for my themes — from a Christian/Biblical perspective — I am glorifying God.”

How would the Constitution Party be good for America? The answer is simple. The Constitution Party would be good for our country — and is good for our country — because it faithfully represents the views of our Founding Fathers.

At one point, taking issue with Michael’s statement that the outrcome of his campaign would be decided by God, Medved ridiculed his Christian faith by asking: “But, you wouldn’t hold your hand over a fire and say, well, the consequences are God’s.”

Now, this is an interesting question. And it has made me think of the Bible story about Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. For refusing to engage in idolatry, the entire bodies of all three men were thrown into a fiery furnace! But, trusting in God, they did not die. In fact, “not a hair of their heads was singed, their robes were unaffected, and there was no smell of fire on them” (Daniel 3:27).

Much of what Medved said to Michael was simply incoherent. For example, he said that because Michael was seeking votes, he was asking people to “disengage from the political process.” But, the opposite was true. By running for President in the Constitution Party, Michael was asking people dissatisfied with the Republicans and Democrats to engage in the political process! What has caused people to “disengage” from this process are the two major parties who are actually one party. Thus, there is no real choice and fewer people vote.

At one point, Medved snidely wondered how traditional marriage in Michael’s “world” would be saved when his candidacy elected President Kerry? But, of course, we live in God’s world — something that seems not to have been realized by Medved.

When a caller said, correctly, that the lesser of two evils is always evil (that is, voting for Kerry or Bush), Medved said that in a fallen world there is no “perfect party.” But, of course, nobody has ever said there is a “perfect party.” The Constitution Party is, however, closer to perfect than the Republicans and Democrats when it comes to reflecting the views of our Founders.

When Michael Peroutka pointed out that President Clinton’s “Goals 2000” Federal education program has become President Bush’s Federal “No Child Left Behind” program, Medved said no, it would have made “a huge difference” had Al Gore been elected. Not true. Mr. Bush’s “No Child Left Behind” program is “Goals 2000” on steroids and is hugely worse than “Goals 2000.”

Elections, Medved insisted, are “practical” and not “spiritual” — as if God has nothing to do with politics, which He does since His only begotten Son is Lord of all!

Medved said: “Anyone who defeats Republicans is condemning [unborn] babies to death” — an appallingly idiotic assertion since there is no evidence Mr. Bush has stopped one abortion.

Medved said that since we have a political system of Republicans and Democrats in this country, Michael Peroutka should work within this system which he calls “the real world.” Medved said, absurdly, there is “all the difference in the world” between these parties.

Referring to Michael Peroutka’s explicitly Christian Presidential campaign, Medved said: “If you want to try to associate the religious imagination and Biblical history with current events, you are absolutely condemning this greatest nation on God’s green earth to a future less that what it deserves.” In other words, apparently, Medved believes God’s Word has no relevance to what’s happening today and politics should be Godless — a view which, if believed, will assure that America has no future!

At one point, returning from a break, Medved said that his program is one where he is proud to say, every day, “I am not a victim.” But, alas, Michael Medved is a victim of his own self-deception. He’s a man with no vision, a man trapped in our failed, two-party system. He hasn’t the slightest idea why one must do his duty and fight for what is right — even if he loses. And, of all things, he’s proud of what he is. We must remember him in our prayers.
