"American View" Radio Shows Reveal John Roberts Pro-Abortion, No "Strict Constructionist," Man Whose Faith Unrelated To Work
JOHN ROBERTS: Won't legislate from the bench, the President says. Instead, Roberts says he'll just uphold the decisions of other judges who have legislated from the bench. Is this a distinction with a difference? No.On our programs 15 & 16, you will hear the actual voice of Roberts say, in a 2003 confirmation hearing: "Roe v. Wade is the settled law of the land. It is not--it's a little more than settled. It was reaffirmed in the face of a challenge that it should be overruled in the Casey decision. Accordingly, it's the settled law of the land. There's nothing in my personal views that would prevent me from fully and faithfully applying that precedent, as well as Casey."
This is a very significant admission because Roberts is saying he has no personal view that in any way sees abortion -- the murder of innocent, unborn children -- as being wrong. And this is why he will uphold all the Supreme Court decisions making abortion "legal." A Christian view, however, would require a Christian judicial nominee to have said something like: "Well, yes, because I am a Christian first, who must, first, obey God's Law, and I believe killing innocent unborn children is murder, I cannot, under any circumstances, abide by or support any court ruling that purports to legalize such murder."
Reading from Roberts' 2003 testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee, we also discuss his views on how the Constitution should be interpreted and how he sees the role of a lawyer. These views, and other views of his we cite, show that Roberts is not a strict constructionist.
We also discuss at some length why the most important question a judicial nominee can be asked is: "Do you believe in the God of the Bible and will you obey His Law?" Related to this, we also discuss reports that Roberts has said his religion (Roman Catholic) will not effect his court rulings.
