- Lincoln Unmasked: What You’re Not Supposed To Know About Dishonest Abe 08/13/07
Thomas DiLorenzo calls attention to a vital fact that demolishes the popular view that one of Lincoln’s primary motives for opposing secession in 1861 was his distaste for slavery. Precisely the opposite was the case. It is well known that, in an effort to promote compromise, a constitutional amendment was proposed in Congress that forever forbade interference with slavery in states where it already existed. Lincoln referred to the proposal, the Corwin Amendment, in his First Inaugural, stating that he was not opposed to the amendment, since it merely made explicit the existing constitutional arrangement regarding slavery. Of course, Lincoln was here characteristically mendacious; nothing in the constitution prior to the amendment prohibited amendments to end slavery. - Sandra Day O’Connor Book On The Law One Of Worst Books Ever Written By Anybody About Anything — No, Seriously, It Really Is*
So, what, exactly, as O’Connor sees it, is “the law?” Well, she says that above the bench in the courtroom of the Supreme Court there is a sculpted marble panel depicting the Majesty of the Law and she found herself drawn to the ideas represented by this panel. This panel, she says, “suggests why we revere the Majesty of the Law.” - Books: Bob Barr/Bovard/Bush/”Big Brother”
If someone described for you a national incident involving unprecedented loss of life, poor government planning, the failure to hold any government official accountable for mistakes, and Congress responding to the crisis by throwing money at the problem, - 50-Year-Old “Rebel Without A Cause” Movie Shows That In Terms Of Our “Rebels” We Have, Indeed, Come A Long Way Baby - In The Wrong Direction
For the first time in many, many years, on the old movie channel, I taped and watched the 1955 James Dean movie “Rebel Without A Cause,” which came out when I was in the seventh grade. My, my how tame it was. “Rebels” aren’t what they used to be. - Sorry, But The Problem With Medicare Is That It Is Un-Constitutional!
The conservative Heritage Foundation has published a guide to the U.S. Constitution edited by former Reagan Attorney General Ed Meese. This guide, however, would have more credibility if the Heritage Foundation had, over the years, made it a practice to oppose existing Congressional laws, and proposed laws, because they are un-Constitutional. I find no evidence this has been done. In fact, when I asked a Heritage spokesman if the organization had ever opposed a Federal program because it was un-Constitutional?, this person could cite no specific example that this has happened.
