Oh, Yuck! — Guns….
The woman shown here who looks like she’s about to throw up is the not-so-serene “Rev.” Serene Jones, head of the Union Theological Seminary. What has her so nauseated is Kentucky Pastor Ken Pagano who held a bring-your-unloaded-gun-to-church event to celebrate the Second Amendment. And he had a raffle where a gun could be won. In any event, on ABC’s “World New Tonight,” Jones said: “To have someone bring a gun into that kind of space and to lift it up as if it were a symbol of goodness is horrific.”
Guns, of course, are inanimate objects. In and of themselves, guns are neither good nor bad; they can be used for things horrific (like murder) or for things not horrific (like self-defense or the defense of others). This not terribly complicated truth seems to not yet have dawned upon the egregious Jones. Ditto, the fact that God does not allow female preachers.
