The “NY Times” obituary re: the death of actor James Whitmore (2/7/09) mentions, of course, as it should have, his one-man shows as Harry Truman, Will Rogers, TR. Also mentioned some TV shows he was in: “Playhouse 90,” “Studio One,” “The Twilight Zone,”“Gunsmoke.” Some of his movies are mentioned: “Asphalt Jungle,” “Kiss Me Kate”“Tora!Tora!Tora!,”“The Shawshank Redemption.”

But, BUT, unbelievably, NOT mentioned was one of the greatest movies of all time, one that Whitmore was in, the 1954 movie about those giant ants who made that haunting sound - the movie ‘THEM”!!! Now, here were some ants that could seriously disrupt your picnic! For shame that the “NYT” would ignore this flick - excerpts of which you may see and hear by clicking on the link below. But, you might want to mute the giant ant sound. It is a sound you will not soon forget. Listen at your peril.
