Last week was another week of disappointment for those who love justice here in Georgia. One of the bills the House of Representatives considered wasa state wide Charter School scheme. There were four distinct camps. Camp 1, consisting of 47 votes, opposed the bill because of a fear that it would do away with “local control” of the government schools. Camp 2 supported the bill because of their belief that it gave parents choice as to where they could send their kids to school. Camp 3 supported the bill by saying that Camp 1 should not fear because Charter Schools are, after all, still government schools. Camp 4 agreed with Camp 3 to the extent that there really is no choice inwhether to eatin the Titanic’s dining room orto eaton the Titanic’s deck. You are still on a sinking ship. For there to be choice you must be able to choose to get off of the sinking ship. The sole member in Camp 4 unsuccessfully urged his fellow conservatives to oppose the bill since all education is by definition religiousand thatthe state has no jurisdiction in the education of children. The bill passed 119-48 and moved over to the Senate.

There was good news and bad news on Friday. The House used one if the 40 days allotted to the session to take up only one measure. That’s the good news. The bad news is that the measure was a resolution “urging the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) to implement a playoff system to determine a national champion in the sport of football.” Why is the Georgia House of Representatives concerning itself with any sport when tens of thousands of babies are slaughtered in the womb each year here in Georgia? Besides, it is not within the jurisdiction of the State to urge any private organization to do anything. What’s next, urging fast food restaurants to stop selling junk food? The resolution passed with only 9 dissenting votes.

The duty is ours …
the outcome is God’s
