Bobby Franklin’s Georgia Journal: Duty Is Ours; The Outcome Is Up To God
Our friend, Georgia State Rep. Bobby Franklin, will be, from time-to-time, doing a “Journal” for us. Sometimes the “Journal” will be written, as is his first submission here; sometimes his “Journal” will be verbal when we interview him and put the audio on this site so you may hear it – JL
REP. BOBBY FRANKLINIn 1997, I became motivated to run for the Georgia House of Representatives after seeing Christians in public office “keep their powder dry” by not opposing anything the ruling Democratic majority proposed, thus “saving” their opposition to only the “religious” issues. But since there is no area of life outside of the Lordship of King Jesus, all votes cast are religious in nature and must be based on what the Bible says is the proper function of the civil government.
Currently I am in my 12th year in office. Sadly, now under a Republican majority, I still see Christians going along to get along. They vote for an ever expanding and unbiblical role of the civil government over every area of life. They tell me that they do not want to offend Representative X by voting against his unbiblical legislation so that Representative X might be more inclined to support our good legislation.
That position is a position based in fear. It tends to do nothing out of fear that doing the right thing could bring negative consequences. Jim Bopp’s strategy memorandum is a case in point. However, as I like to say, “the duty is ours … the outcome is God’s.” We can only do our duty to be faithful in the jurisdiction the Lord has called us to without worrying about whether someone else in another jurisdiction will do his duty. We must be faithful and leave the results to the Lord.
