Our 13th nationally-syndicated, one-hour radio show, "The American View" co-hosted by myself and "recovering Republican" John Lofton, will be broadcast this Sunday. It is a detailed response to President Bush's totally predictable rebuke of Christian conservatives who voted for him.

For the first time since 1928, both major parties will have open contests for the Presidential nomination without a sitting President or Vice President in the running. Election 2008 http://www.pollingreport.com/2008.htm has various polls showing Rudy Giuliani, Condoleezza Rice, and John McCain as the front runners for the GOP, and H. Clinton as the front runner for the generic brand of GOP.
The pro-life candidates will remain in stealth mode, until one or more Christian conservative leaders reveal which of the above they will support. The candidate that is most likely to rebuke them once in office will be the one supported, if the past is a reliable indicator of the future.
Dobson, Falwell, Robertson, and the major pro-life organizations probably prefer someone else. They will make the same idle threats to leave the GOP, followed by the same compromises that they have always made when their preference fails to be fronted, and funded by the GOP financiers.
Why do they do it? Exodus 18:21 “….able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness….” is just as applicable to candidates running for office, as those who are advising the populace about the candidates. The temptation to accept money with a string or two attached for worthy causes is great. When Christian principal is sacrificed for cash flow, the good steward ceases to follow the One from whom all blessings flow.
Pat gets paid: TV preacher Robertson gets 'faith-based' grant from Bush administration
On the Feb. 20, 2001 episode of his nationally televised "700 Club" program, Robertson, one of the nation's most reliable friends of Bush and the Republican Party, condemned the controversial plan to fund houses of worship with tax dollars.
"[T]his thing could be a real Pandora's box," Robertson said. "And what seems to be such a great initiative can rise up to bite the organizations as well as the federal government. And I'm a little concerned about it, frankly."
"[F]ederal rules will envelope these organizations, they'll begin to be nurtured, if I can use that term, on federal money, and then they can't get off of it," Robertson said. "It'll be like a narcotic; they can't then free themselves later on."
Robertson was right to warn of a `Pandora's box,"' [Cal]Thomas added. "But he has now opened that box and is taking the money. It doesn't take a prophet to see trouble ahead." http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qa3944/is_200211/ai_n9154010
Also, nothing prohibits the GOP financiers from directly contributing to 501(c)(3) Christian organizations as part of the cost of doing political business. They probably get more political bang for the campaign buck after the tax deduction. When any particular Christian leader becomes too critical for GOP comfort, the errant preacher can be easily subdued with the threat to withdraw funding.
Bush’s anti-American, anti-Christian, and anti-Constitutional paper trail was well documented prior to the last election, but it made no difference with leaders of the Christian Right. They had to be paid to be that stupid.
