This has been an absolute heartbreaker of an email to read. After reading both of your letters, I applaud your perception of events and your stand in regards to the the incidents that caused you to write.
I had so wanted to believe that the issue of abortion was a 100% clearcut one, and that all members were of like mind in opposition to it. How foolish of me to forget that we live in a fallen world and that there will always be the wafflers and the wimps among us. I hope they can be weeded out, even though I absolutely HATE the realities of the divisiveness this engenders. But there is no other way. Even though the Constitution Party travels a much higher road then all other parties, the human factor will always pose problems. We are not exempt from the growing pains that other groups have experienced. Unhappily, these negative and destructive elements are unfailingly bitter to deal with, and they also involve the expenditure of many precious energies and resources. Moses certainly found that out!
Our primary objective must be to please God, and if that displeases man, so be it. Trouble starts when we attempt to slither by our primary responsibility by allowing "just a crack" in the door. How short-sighted we humans can be, and how quickly we can turn aside from such wise examples as that of the little Dutch boy and the very tiny hole in the dike.
I stand with you and await further information in regards to the Constitution Party's currently compromised stand on abortion. If it becomes necessary for me to leave the party, I will do so with great regret, but with no hesitation.
Truly,
Sue C Speck

Dear Sue:
Thank you for your most gracious and articulate message.
"Heartbreaking" is really the right word, I think, for what we feel when we realize the implications of this information.
But as we have heard many times, we ought to please God, not men. My declaration of my position on this issue has, in fact, displeased many men, but here you and I must stand. You and I can really do no other.
God will have His way.
Thank you again,
Michael

Dear, dear Michael:
While it's been a long time since we last communicated, I just had to respond to your courageous expression of true LEADERSHIP in responding to the Nevada issue and, more upsetting, learning of the position taken by my dearest of friends, Howard Phillips.
As you may recall, I founded the New York Constitution Party at the request of Howard and ran for the US Senate against Hillary Clinton as the NYCP's first candidate for US Senate (and I beleive the first CP candidate for the US Senate). To accomplish this very difficult feat in a state hostile to everything we believe and which NY Election Law almost totally bars the emergence of 3rd Parties, our team (so ably assisted by Debbie Cody with the incredible support of Howard) amassed over 15,000 petitition signatures to qualify us for the ballot. I was removed as the Republican candidate on flimsy technical grounds led by then Senator Al D'Amato (a hippocritical Pro Lifer). He reasoned that a true, 100% Pro Life candidate could never win in NY. I ran only on the CP line. I guess he forgot that I made history in my 1990 run for Governor (NY) in receiving the most votes per dollar spent (157,000 on less than $25,000). Just imagine what we could have accomplished as the Republican-Constitution Party Candidate for Senate against Hillary Clinton?
I was forced to leave the CP based on several factors: (1) poor national leadership; (2) the unfortunate insertion of religion into the Party Platform which I believed constituted not only a great insult to the Constitution (i.e., there shall be no political test for public office - Article VI) but also an insult to NYCP members who where either Jewish, Moslem or Christians who believed that it was wrong to force a Religious test on CP members.
I was also appalled at the call for the IMPEACHMENT of President George Bush over the issue of the War of Iraq. Not only was it groundless. Not only did it border on giving Aid and Comfort to the ENEMY in a time of War. But, it marginalized the CP as a FRINGE PARTY to the American public at large. I also beleived it compromised my Oath of Office as a Colonel in the USMCR (for which I spent over 11 years in Counter and Anti Terrorist Special Operations and 18 years of service as both an enlisted Marine and Officer).
As one who has actively participated in politics at every level of government for 40 years; who served in the White House (in which Howard was my boss); who was a Senior Assistant to the Mayor of New York; who has the distinction of receiving the highest number of votes for Governor of NY per dollar spent; who managed more than 26 national, state and local campaigns; who founded the New York City Independence Party (1976) and the NYCP (2000); I have come to the conclusion that our efforts, energies and monies are wasted by joining 3rd parties.
I truly believe that if all of like-minded Constitutionalists really wanted to restore respect for the intent of America's Founding Fathers and our "unalienable" Rights that find their roots in God, Our Creator, then we must reconsider our affiliations and look to take back the Republican Party from the BOTTOM-UP. Let us win the easiest of elections by running for County Committeemen. Let us take over the Party, County by County. Let us nominate for public office those who appreciate our Rights come from God, our Creator, that MORALITY is only rooted in God's Law not man's and that the sanctity of the INNOCENT UNBORN Person is a Right that can never be abridged.
Getting back to the point of this reply, let me say how deeply respectful all of us should be for your courageous LEADERSHIP not just for those still involved with the Constitution Party, but for ALL Americans.
Your example is applauded. You are running the GOOD RACE and will eventually triumph, if not now or if not here, then when it really counts --- when we meet our Creator face-to-face.
With warmest personal regards and appreciation,
Colonel Louis de la Guardia Wein, USMCR (on the injured list)

Dear Mr. Wein:
Thank you for entering the forum and thanks for your kind words. I am deeply appreciative, as are many others, of your courageous and committed leadership in New York and your willingness to place your name and reputation and fortune on the line to represent the Constitution Party. As you may imagine, following my own run for the Presidency, I have a heightened appreciation for what you and your wife and family endured for the sake of liberty and for our sakes as well.
You have our respect and our gratitude.
As for the current troubles, I pray that men and women that I respect and admire will determine to act in accordance with principle as they have previously said and done.
I don't see how the Constitution Party can move toward the restoration of the Republic based on Biblical principles unless the no exceptions position on the platform plank on protecting innocent life in the womb is restored completely.
We must insist on this and we must not compromise.
It was a privilege to hear from you. Please don't be a stranger to our forum.

Lou,
When I joined the Constitution Party, before you ran for senate in 2000, religion was already inserted in the party platform:
"The Constitution Party gratefully acknowledges the blessing of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as Creator, Preserver and Ruler of the Universe and of these United States."
The Constitution Party of New York has never had any religious test for party membership, and in 2004, the following language was added to the national party platform:
The Constitution of the United States provides that "no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States." The Constitution Party supports the original intent of this language. Therefore, the Constitution Party calls on all those who love liberty and value their inherent rights to join with us in the pursuit of these goals and in the restoration of these founding principles.
Finally, unlike the America First Party, the Constitution Party has never called for the impeachment of President Bush.

I was wondering if Mr. Peroutka has seen/considered the invitation below. It's from Mr. Bob Schulz (Chairman of We The People). If you have not seen, or maybe have and ignored, I implore you to consider this invitation and help unite the Constitutionalists in this country to help return to the greatness our Founders envisioned.
Sincerely,
LibertyMike

You Are Invited!
Get Scheduled as a Featured Speaker
& Join The Right-to-Petition Alliance
As an established Liberty-committed opinion-setter and/or organizational leader, you are hereby invited to join
as part of a mutually beneficial nationwide alliance with the We The People organization and other Freedom groups
to restore Constitutional Order through the exercise of a profound Constitutional strategy. This strategy is nothing less
than the the little-known, but most powerful Right enumerated in the Bill of Rights, i.e., the First Amendment Right to Petition.
In short, our legal and historical research has established conclusively that the Right to Petition is far more powerful
than our Government would have us believe, and in fact is, the "capstone" enumerated Right in the Bill of Rights
that articulates and facilitates the practical exercise of Popular Sovereignty itself.
Furthermore, we believe that this non-political, legal strategy will enable us to collectively succeed where
every "single-issue" Rights organization has, to date, failed in reversing the erosion of our Rights
and our Founding Principles.
Beyond our offer to extend to you an an opportunity to reach a significant (and growing) nationwide audience of freedom-loving Americans via a live Internet broadcast (at no cost to you), we can extend additional benefits to you and your organization.
Please watch this short video invitation to learn more about our alliance.
A written version of our full invitation appears below.
Please click here to learn more about the Right to Petition and our legal battles to have the federal judiciary declare
-- for the first time in history -- the constitutional meaning of the Petition clause. The Lawsuit Information Center page contains video and and documentary overviews about the Right to Petition, copies of the legal pleadings and law review articles documenting the little-known history of the Right.

Dear Liberty Leader,
In the defense of the Constitution and the restoration of our Founders’ vision, the non-partisan We The People Foundation For Constitutional Education and the We the People Congress would like to invite you to appear as guest speaker at one of our upcoming events scheduled across the nation between July and September.
We believe our 50-state, 70+ city public awareness tour is an extraordinary opportunity for opinion-makers such as yourself to reach out and expose you, your organization and your issue of interest to a diverse nationwide audience of Liberty minded individuals and other aligned, single-issue organizations.
The one-hour guest speaker segment of each event will be broadcast live via the Internet to a significant (and growing) nationwide audience. As a special inducement, we are also able to offer your organization a significant (automated) fund raising opportunity, generously sharing the proceeds of all monies generated as a result our mutual relationship.
We are offering this significant opportunity to you as a means of coalescing the numerous “single-issue” Liberty interests across America under a profound, but little-known non-political, constitutional strategy that is currently being championed by our organization through both grassroots activism and professionally managed litigation through the federal court system.
The strategy is nothing less than exercise and enforcement of the “capstone” Right, i.e., the First Amendment Right to Petition the government for Redress of Grievances. Far beyond the Right to send an opinion to the government officials, the Right to Petition is perhaps the most fundamental of all the “Great Rights” in that it insures man’s Sovereignty over servant government.
Although many have little knowledge about this Right, our legal and historical research has established beyond question that this Right -- the “capstone” Right -- derived from the Magna Carta of 1215, is far more powerful than our government would have us believe. It is clear that our Founder’s knew that embodied within the Right to Petition was, in fact, the practical exercise of Popular Sovereignty and the means for Individuals and the minority to peacefully hold governments accountable against both tyrants and the will of the majority. The other First Amendment Rights are merely derivatives of this core Right of Sovereignty.
“If money is wanted by Rulers who have in any manner oppressed the People, they may retain it until their grievances are redressed, and thus peaceably procure relief, without trusting to the despised petitions or disturbing the public tranquility.” Journals of the Continental Congress. Journals 1:105-113
In short, we are attempting to bring together a large coalition of Freedom-defending opinion leaders and single-issue organizations to educate their supporters, and practically exercise the First Amendment Right to Petition. Where our single interest organizations have failed individually, we believe the Right of Petition strategy may enable our success together.
If we can collectively move beyond single-issue politics and garner a sufficient “critical mass” of grassroots support and public awareness for the Right to Petition, we believe we can influence the national agenda and begin the process of restoring Constitutional Order to our Republic.
The We The People “Why Won’t They Answer Tour?” is a unique opportunity to not only reach out live to your established network of supporters, but to reach potentially hundreds of thousands of aligned Americans all seeking for a means to secure the Blessings of Liberty.
Here is what we can offer you as a speaker and/or leader of a participating organization:
Nationwide exposure via a FREE, live, 1-hour Webcast (professionally streamed live & archived for on-demand viewing from our servers)
On-site books & product sales (NO fees or charges to you or your organization)
A significant % of ALL monies raised by your organization’s promotion of the WTP tour that result in (trackable) WTP Congress memberships and/or donations to the Congress
.
Note: Qualifying financial transactions are tracked electronically by our automated $hare affiliate tracking system. Donations collected by WTP at the event are not subject to this arrangement nor or transactions not directly traceable to your assigned tracking code. More details of the system and codes are available upon request.
An opportunity for you to craft, post and serve upon government officials a Petition for Redress of Grievances for your specific issue of interest. We will provide the secured, on-line for people everywhere to e-sign your Petition.
A chance to participate in our two culminating public events in Washington, DC on Constitution Day, September 18th and on October 9th. On the 18th, we will formally serve our Petitions upon the government and on the 9th we will await their response.
A chance to move beyond limited, single-issue political solutions and join with other Freedoms organizations to successfully restore Constitutional Order employing the real Right to Petition.
We urge you to read the enclosed materials and go to our website for further information about our organizations, the history of the Right to Petition, our efforts to exercise and enforce it, and our landmark litigation to have the courts determine -- for the first time in history -- the constitutional meaning of the Petition clause of the First Amendment.
Please consider joining us in our fight to save the Constitution and restore the Light of Liberty
as the divine beacon for all mankind.

I read the letter written to Michael A. Peroutka by Mr. Wein. After reading the shameless self-promoting of Mr. Wein, I am reminded of a Biblical reference to politics.
When Jesus asked the scribes if the baptism of John was of heaven or of men, they formed a caucus and pragmatically debated what the effects would be of various responses. No one asked whether the Baptism of John was of heaven or of men. It is interesting to note that politicians want to ask what will work and believers want to know what is true.
Mr. Wein offers the conventional “wisdom” that we return to the Republican Party. The pragmatic “leaders” of the Republican Party have looted the country worse than even the Democrats could have dreamt. These “leaders” need to have the consequences of their scandalous behavior come on their own heads, preferably with lengthy prison terms.
If a third party stands for what is true, then it might be in a position to demand one or two things from whatever party needs to build a coalition. This is commonly found in Parliamentary forms of government. In this way, believers do not have to debase themselves by working as stooges for the thieves who run the Republican Party.
If the tangled “affiliations” cannot be straightened out to correct the errors of the CP leadership, then a new party may have to be formed. However, it should be formed to be true to principles and immune from being hijacked by the pragmatists who see to always want to divert the beliefs of others for their personal glory or gain.
