As a result of their study, the Immigration Reform Caucus observation team issued a number of workable recommendations—which I endorse in principle, and which I will work hard to see implemented if I become your Congressman. Among the team’s findings are these:

If Mr. Gilchrist was running in my district, I would vote for him.

I do not think the open border situation could possibly be worse than it is now. I am just sick about it. There is no doubt in my military mind that if something is not done, it will destroy America as surely as an armed invasion would. Terrorists are likely crossing the open borders with the Mexicans, the property of American citizens is being destroyed, social services, schools and hospitals are being overwhelmed (when I lived in California, the ER's were packed every night with illegal aliens), diseases are being brought into our country, along with pedophiles, murderers and rapists. The Mexicans who come here do not respect our laws, our culture, our history, or our constitution. Their first loyalty is to Mexico - they fly Mexican flags not American flags.

It's laughable for the talking heads to repeat their mantra that using the military to close the borders is not practicable or legal. Baloney! Article 4, Section 4 of the Constitution MANDATES it!

Meanwhile, our military is in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as dozens of other foreign countries, and is stretched so thin that we are sending National Guardsmen to fight in Iraq! Who is protecting the Homeland? No one, that's who. "Homeland Security" has become a pathetic oxymoron.

We all saw what happened when New Orleans flooded and people were trapped and were not allowed to walk out of the city. We saw them deploy the 82nd Airborne (the only available unit) to fight American citizens. The government has no plans whatsoever to protect American citizens from major terrorist attacks. There are no civil defense programs. It is quite clear to me that the U.S. Government does not care about its citizens. We are all expendable - that has become abundantly clear to me. They are more concerned about "managing" the American population centers post-crisis than they are about "protecting" Americans by providing pro-active civil defense programs and REAL border protection. Bush says it's better to fight the terrorists "over there" than fight them here. Talk about a SPECIOUS argument. Does anyone really doubt that our enemies are able to chew gum and walk at the same time?

And what do the American people do? Nothing. While a small minority is trying to fight back, the rest either don't care, or agree with the status quo, or simply feel powerless to do anything. Most Americans live a compartmentalized existence - a cocoon if you will - wherein they live with their families, work, sleep, eat, go to movies, watch TV, and live out their otherwise hedonistic existences. They figure - as long as it doesn't affect me financially or personally, I won't worry about it. As in the days of Noah...

It is no accident that the borders are still wide open in a "time of war." I believe there is something more sinister and less prosaic at work here than multiculturalism run amok, the Republicans' desire for cheap labor and the Democrats' desire for cheap votes. Could it be a globalist agenda? I see no other explanation for the outrageous dereliction of duty, unconstitutional usurpations, and abject perfidy of our traitorous leaders.

I don't know about y'all, but I do not trust the government one iota. Bush can call the Minutemen whatever he wants, but I would rather elect a vigilante than a traitor.

That question has been answered in the affirmative: “Liberal Democracy vs. Transnational Progressivism: The Future of the Ideological Civil War Within the West.” http://www.hudson.org/files/publications/idealogical_war.pdf

It is a lengthy article that connects all the dots about multiculturalism, multilingualism, race/sex proportionalism, the planned obsolesce of American national sovereignty, redefinition of democracy ( which doesn’t include any form of Republic), the deconstruction of national narratives and national symbols, promotion of the concept of post national citizenship, and the idea of transnationalism as a major conceptual tool.

Additionally, http://www.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2002/12/4/165554.shtml is a shorter description that contains this most insightful argument:

Note I do not think these battles will solve long-term problems; unless Western peoples start having families again, the social unit and population base needed for a civilization will be lacking. I do not believe that civilizations are purely or even substantially "propositional" or can be sustained by requiring courses on Martin Luther King and global democracy prepared by Harry Jaffa, Bill Bennett, and Mrs. Cheney.

While societies can assimilate, there are three presuppositions that must obtain: a core population that carries a distinctive culture that it hopes to preserve; a minority that is accepted on the condition that it eagerly embraces that majority culture; and a sufficiently controlled immigration so that assimilation is possible.

The abortion count for the U.S. is approaching 50 million since the unconstitutional Roe opinion, and the only distinctive that American culture hopes to preserve is welfare, entertainment, and the two degenerate major political parties with the agenda to make America desolate of the founding principals , a proverb, and a byword, among all the United Nations.

Thank you. I'll save this for a later read.

I’m somewhat concerned that Mr. Gilchrist considers himself an avid supporter of law enforcement organizations. In my experience many law enforcement organizations view nearly all gun control legislation as reasonable. Was it military, or law enforcement, personnel who confiscated individual’s firearms and expelled people from their homes in the Katrina aftermath? My brief search of www.jimgilchrist.com turned up no information on Mr. Gilchrist's position on gun control.

When asked if he supports "additional restrictions on the sale and ownership of firearms (of any type), magazines, and/or ammunition" he answered, "no."

Hello Everyone!

I am a newcomer to The American View forum. I want to thank everyone involved in making this forum possible.

I am concerned about how we go about discouraging the illegal aliens from coming into our country. One of the proposals is to punish employers who hire them.

We already have way too much government involvement in business. Employers should not be made to answer for the crimes of their employees.

Eric,

Welcome to the forum. When you say "one of the proposals" I am not sure what you are referring to. Was this mentioned in the Jim Gilchrist interview? It has been awhile since I listened to it.

I agree with you about immigration, but disagree on employers. My presumption is that it is already unlawful to hire illegal aliens. If I am correct, I think it should remain that way.

Telling us who we can and cannot hire is no business of any government. The various governments tax businesses, mandate minimum wage, instill environmental rules and regulations, require State Slave Numbers, tell us "Know your customer", have zoning laws, building codes...the list goes on and on. Some of these laws via the state or local governments are needed, but most are communistic invasions of our privacy that are used to try to control us.

Yes, Jim Gilchrist does promote the idea of punishing employers for employing someone who is an illegal alien. He said as much during his race for office.

Do not get me wrong. I admire him and the Minutemen for their protection of our border and the private property of the people along the border. My concern is about chastising the American businessman for the crimes of others.

1. Vote out the Republicrat Party in DC.
2. Put a heavily armed militia on the border in the meantime
3. Take away the incentives by
(a) remove all illegal aliens
(b) communities stop all free education, health care, local welfare, driver licenses
(c) communities stop accepting ancher babies as US citizens in all transactions with local givernment

Here is a letter from Jim Gilchrist for Mike Huckabee. If Gilchrist ever was a man with a true American View he has demonstrated that he no longer holds to The American View.

Dear MinuteMen and Women,

We have long struggled together to encourage those in power in the Federal government to follow the rule of law and secure our borders and enforce U.S. immigration laws. We have had great success in bringing this issue directly to the American public in the absence of leadership by our political governors in Washington, DC.

Now, as the Presidential Election of 2008 draws near we have a unique opportunity to raise our collective voices at those candidates who wish to lead America for the next four years.

We cannot just stand by and allow any candidate who wants to lead our country to not make a stand in defense of our sovereignty.

That is why for the last several months I have been actively seeking more information about the history, record, and future plans of all the major candidates for President of the United States.

It is important to speak honestly about who has the best possibility of being elected to the White House and, of those possibilities, which one will serve the goals and objectives of Minutemen everywhere.

I understand that by personally immersing myself in the presidential political debate I will upset some of you in the Minuteman movement. That is an expected consequence of being involved in political activism and I am prepared for that consequence.

However, I cannot allow personal preferences, whether it is my own or that of my fellow allies in the battle to defend the borders of our country, to disallow what in all fairness is “political reality”.

Many of you remember when I ran for Congress in 2005 as a third-party candidate. We had a great team and fabulous supporters from all over the country. Many so-called political professionals said we had "no chance to even make an impact" in that Congressional race. But, we garnered the highest percentage for a third-party candidate in a congressional race in 40 years. I am proud of what we all have achieved together.

I have learned much about politics since establishing that political bench mark.

Right now the issue of illegal immigration and border security is foremost in the minds of voters in the early voting states of Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina. In fact, because of the efforts of Minutemen everywhere, it is the major issue in both the Republican and Democratic parties. Like you, I am thrilled that, finally, all of our politicians are forced to address the issue of our nation's chaotic neglect of U.S. immigration laws in every debate, town hall meeting, and personal appearance he or she makes.

And, like you patriots, I want more than just talk. I want a president who will act. I want a president with a “plan”, and a willingness to accept the challenge of effectively addressing the most unprecedented invasion of the United States in its 231-year history.

There have been very few voices in Washington DC who have echoed our call to secure the borders and enforce our immigration laws. One of those lone voices, and a great leader for America as well, is Colorado Congressman Tom Tancredo. Congressman Tancredo is a personal hero of mine who gave me the inspiration to create the Minuteman Project over three years ago.

And Duncan Hunter, Congressman from California, actually wrote the bill to get the fence built on the border between the San Diego, California and Mexico.

Both of these men have been more instrumental in moving the debate of border security and illegal immigration to where it is today than any one else. Tom Tancredo and Duncan Hunter are the quintessential political pioneers in the quest to maintain a respectable and responsible immigration system.

But as we go forward in our movement with a national stage to implement a new policy with new leaders, we have to recognize that the American people have decided there are only three viable candidates for a Republican Party presidential nominee: former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, and former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

The Democrats will place either Hillary Clinton or Barrack Obama into position for the presidential race.

You have a choice: either stand with me on this mission to restore our nation to governance by the people, or scatter in mutual acrimony and resign yourselves to the fact that pro-amnesty Hillary Clinton or pro-sanctuary city Rudy Giuliani will very likely be the next president of the United States.

My recent decision was made to prevent just that from happening.

Americans, I have never made a promise I never intended to keep, and I have never lied about my intentions to devote my all to bringing America back under the rule of law insofar as our immigration laws are concerned.

My endorsement of former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee was not decided over night. It was six weeks in the making.

Governor Huckabee came to me…solicited me for help. Although I personally sent every candidate for president a certified, registered, return receipt query about his or her position on the immigration chaos, only Governor Huckabee bothered to reply.

Not only did Governor Huckabee solicit input from minutemen, he also published on his web site (www.mikehuckabee.com) a written “plan” on how he will address the more salient issues of illegal immigration. When I read his published statements of position on the issue, it seemed as if I had written the “plan” myself. It is tough. It is demanding. And it leads America back to its heritage as “a nation governed by the rule of law”.

Our Founding Fathers envisioned a nation of “representative government”, a nation in which the electorate was actively involved in designing and implementing policy and principle. When Governor Huckabee invited the founder of the Minuteman Project to participate in his campaign, it became undeniably clear that he was virtually asking for the input of 250 million Americans…the estimated number of Americans who support the intent of the minuteman movement.

Now, fasten your seat belts and get ready for one wild ride through the 2008 presidential election cycle.

Cheers,

Gilchrist behaves like a shill for the powers that be when he states that the only viable candidates are 'Trudy Ghouliani, Mitt Rommel, and Mike Wannabe'.
Just as Keyes supported Bush in '04, Gilchrist beats the same drum of pragmatism over principle.
Did he not investigate Wannabe's tenure in Arkansas?
I think my long-held suspicions about Gilchrist are being validated. He's just another opportunist pied-piper.
As far as a "nation ruled by law", no candidate other than Ron Paul champions the cause. The rest are ear-ticklers.
