I have my own opinions, but I would really like to see Peroutka, Lofton or Whiteman write an article on the disaster in Louisiana and Mississippi and what involvement (if any) the Federal, State or Local government should have.

When I say involvement, I mean troops, both state and national and aid of money, food, clothing, housing or anything else.

Also, I would like to see a constitutional view of what the private citizens of Louisiana can do regarding looters and other offenders when the local police are either unable or unwilling to take action.

Please note, this is a request for an article or some kind of viewpoint on this situations. I do not want an immediate discussion in this thread. If you'd like to do that, then start your own thread.

I live 100 mile from the Gulf Coast in Waynesboro Mississippi. We had sustained winds of 70-80 MPH for about 4 hours, and several gusts of 100 MPH. I had a 90' pine tree embedded in my carport roof, which we have since removed. I had a storage barn destroyed, and some damage to a woodshed. Other than that, I had probably 100-150 trees ranging in height from 40' to 100' blown down on my property. I did not purchase a generator. My wife and I did not have enough food in our freezer or refrigerator to justify buying an $800 generator. Our PRIVATE insurance will cover the cost of this, less our deductible.
What is sickening in all this, is that FEMA will apparently reimburse people up to $800 dollars for their purchases of generators, among many other purchases. I know personally of many people in my area with incomes of $50,000-$80,000 who are filing papers with FEMA to get reimbursed for their generators. WELFARE! WELFARE! WELFARE! If I had purchased a generator, I would NOT want Uncle Sam (a.k.a. the American taxpayer) to pay for it! Oh what FDR and LBJ have wrought, and what GWB is perpetuating! The welfare state is alive and well!
