There are some new services that we've tapped into. We haven't spent much time with them, but XML being what it is, The American View Radio show quickly has a new access point.
First place Odeo (http://www.odeo.com/channel/26404/view)
If you are an admirer of the color pink, you will feel right at home here.
Second place, is Podcast Alley (http://podcastalley.com/podcast_details.php?pod_id=9096)
So - if you don't want to use iTunes - you have no more excuses! Odeo has an app for everyone.
Let me know if you decide to use it - tell me if it's great or lame, so we can adjust.

I have been usin iTunes since version 2 so I am quite comfortable and the only alternative podcasting program I tried I didn't care for. However, I was curious what software you use to create the podcast. I do one myself and I have tried several out over the past couple of months that I have been doing it and i need to buy one now but I thought I would get any input I could before I made a decision.
So far I like Podcast Maker for OS X the best.

I'm just using a text editor (BBEdit) to keep the podcast feed current. The particulars of this show are that they come to me in 4 segments. I use a handy little utility to join them in iTunes, where I then tag them; then just use our CMS to make the page and upload the show (then, technically update the feed).

I thought about learning how to do RSS in using Text Edit but I figured that it was worth $30 to get a gui program instead.
What is the utility you use to join the tracks?
I would probably just use Pro Tools but that may be a bit much to launch for such a small task.
BTW, I usually also make mine an enhances podcast as well so that is much easier to do with a gui program and that way I don't have to use the terminal to create the chapters.
BTW, have you ever considered adding chapters to TAV? THe problem I guess it that you would need to possibly use two different feeds to retain mp3 compatibility.
But there are often times that I would like to skip to a certian segment.

I would very much like to see "enhanced" podcasts. iTunes can even show artwork for each chapter, etc. From my understanding, the tags are just "iTunes" specific, though, so there is no compatibility issue, just a loss of function from the "other" players. One nice feature that is off by default is the "remember position" option. That way at least you return to the position you were for that particular podcast. Not as nice as adding chapters...which if I can figure it out, I'll do! I wouldn't mind a gui...Garageband w/ iLife '06 seems like a pretty powerful option, though maybe it's not quite right.
I use the "Join & Convert" script from somewhere, but blast if I can find the url or original archive at the moment. It had something to do with coffee...?

Try podcast maker.
It will do enhanced podcasts with chapters etc. all you need to do is drag and drop from your iPhoto library.
The one downside is that you have to use AAC, whice of course wouldn't be a downside if all players supported it like they do Mp3.
There is really no reason for them not too, it is open...

That is the link to the Podcast I do for my church.
They are not all enhanced since I don't always have the time.
BTW, if you decide to do an enhanced Podcast, you will may need to do two to keep mp3 compatibility. I only registered mine with iTunes so I didn't worry about it.
I have one friend that has a generic flash based mp3 player and he just converts to mp3 first, he says it isn'ta big deal.
