Governments, like men, have a fallen nature. And it is the nature of government, over time, to overrun its authority and to abuse the very people it is designed to protect.
Mindful of this propensity, the Framers of our American Constitution not only crafted the document to limit the power of the Federal government, but they also included a specific provision that reserved to the States and the people the right to nullify Federal actions when they exceed lawful authority. This anti-tyranny tool is known as the Tenth Amendment.
On March 2nd, 2012 Michael Boldin, Executive Director of the Tenth Amendment Center, was Institute on the Constitution’s First Friday speaker. His discussion was about the Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution and its application as the states’ tool to keep the federal government within its jurisdiction.
