If you told me that my daddy was NOT my daddy, I might get awfully mad at you.
Let’s say that the evidence was indisputable and that you could absolutely prove that the man I thought was my father was not, in fact, my father.
What’s more, suppose you could demonstrate, beyond all doubt, that he had lied to me about my own personal history.
Despite all the evidence, I might still reject the truth. Why? Well because the truth might hurt too much to believe. My allegiances, though falsely planted, are deeply rooted, and my loyalties are a set and fixed thing.
In our country today, we are led to believe that the central government in Washington, DC is paternalistic – that is – acting like a parent would with a child. We believe it is protecting us from evils such as economic collapse and terrorism. And it has our allegiance. Even if we sometimes bitterly complain that it is ignorant or corrupt, we believe and we want to believe that the government and its officers are trying their best to serve us well and to protect us from harm.
But what if we were shown direct and irrefutable evidence that our government purposely causes the economic misery? And what if we had specific credible evidence that our federal government actively and purposely sponsors the terrorism that it then pretends to protect us from?
Would we acknowledge and act on the truth if it was presented directly to us? Or would we bury our heads?
In his famous “Liberty or Death” speech Patrick Henry said this:

Patrick Henry
It is not wise to close our eyes or bury our heads. It might be time for us to ask: “Just who is your daddy?”
