John Lofton: The Coming Of The Lord Jesus Christ Is The Most Important “Political” Event Ever, Gave Us True Liberty

Posted on November 7, 2011 by The American View

John Lofton

In his December “First Friday” address, “The Lord Jesus Christ, The Ultimate, True ‘Libertarian’: How His Coming Is The Most Important “Political” Event In History,” John contrasted the death-loving, Godless ancient Greco-Roman world with the life-giving coming of the Christ and Christianity. He spoke of the fight for liberty led by Christians in England and America. And he emphasized that a Godless, anti-Christian politics will not save us. In his talk John referenced the following books:

  • The Foundations Of Social Order: Studies In The Creeds And Councils Of The Early Church (1968) by Dr. R.J. Rushdoony, Chalcedon Foundation
  • The Ancient City: A Study On The Religion, Laws And Institutions Of Greece And Rome (1889) by Fustel de Coulanges
  • The Conflict Of Heathenism And Christianity (1899) by Dr. Gerhard Uhlhorn
  • Democracy In America by Alexis de Tocqueville
  • A History Of European Morals From Augustus To Charlemagne by William E.H. Lecky
  • Religious Origins Of The American Revolution (Scholars Press, 1976) by Page Smith
  • A Short History Of Puritanism (T & T Clark, 1908) by James Heron, D.D.
  • Christianity And Classical Culture: A Study Of Thought And Action From August To Augustine by Charles Norris Cochrane
  • Flatland, an 1884 science fiction novel by Edwin A. Abbott

A DVD copy of this presentation is available in our STORE now for $15.00.

  • What is this American View?

Briefly stated, "The American View" of government is that there is a God, the God of the Bible, our rights come from Him, and the purpose of civil government is to secure our rights.

There are many views of government, from equally numerous world views. Americans are blessed that our Founders' Biblical Worldview informed their political philosophy and the framing of our founding documents.
