Debt Ceiling Is Not The Problem

Posted on July 29, 2011 by Michael Anthony Peroutka

With all the fussing and fighting among the Senate and the Congress and Barak Obama about whether or not to raise the debt ceiling, it seems to me that we have to remember one important thing.

The problem is not the debt ceiling. The problem is the debt.

We are bankrupt. We are busted. The people who did it to us with lawless legislation, sloppy spending and promiscuous promises are now scrambling to offer us solutions. We should be suspicious of this.

Profiles In Constitutional Courage: Rep. Bobby Franklin Of Georgia

Posted on July 26, 2011 by Michael Anthony Peroutka

There’s no one better to begin our “Profiles In Constitutional Courage” series with than Rep. Bobby Franklin of Georgia. As Bobby has said, explaining why he ran for the Georgia House:

“In 1997, I became motivated to run for the Georgia House of Representatives after seeing Christians in public office ‘keep their powder dry’ by not opposing anything the ruling Democratic majority proposed, thus ‘saving’ their opposition to only the ‘religious’ issues. But since there is no area of life outside of the Lordship of King Jesus, all votes cast are religious in nature and must be based on what the Bible says is the proper function of the civil government….”
“As I like to say, ‘the duty is ours … the outcome is God’s.’ We can only do our duty to be faithful in the jurisdiction the Lord has called us to without worrying about whether someone else in another jurisdiction will do his duty. We must be faithful and leave the results to the Lord.”

Among the legislation introduced by Bobby has been legislation:

– To outlaw all abortions (HB 1.) This strong pro-life effort on Bobby’s part has predictably caused him to be viciously attacked and lied about. Because he believes all abortions are murder, Bobby rejects any efforts to simply regulate abortion (sonograms, parental consent) because after such regulations are obeyed, the unborn baby may still be killed.

– To make gold and silver the only legal tender for payment of debts by and to the state of Georgia pursuant to Article I Section 10 of the U.S. Constitution (HB 3.)

– To tax the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta as it would any other privately owned bank in the state of Georgia (HB 466.)

– To allow anyone, without a permit, to use their private residential property for the growing or raising of food crops or chickens, rabbits, or milk goats in home gardens, coops, or pens on private residential property so long as such food crops or animals or the products thereof are used for human consumption (HB 2.)

– To remove the Governor’s right to temporarily suspend or regulate the sale of guns during an emergency (HB 6.)

– To prevent local governments from adopting regulations or banning the sale of unprocessed agricultural products from the farmer to the consumer (HB 12.)

– To eliminate the income tax throughout the state and by any local governments in the state (HB 13.)

Rep. Bobby Franklin: Defender Of The Christian Faith, Fought For True View Of American Law And Government

Posted on July 26, 2011 by Michael Anthony Peroutka

We lost a Christian champion today. Around noon today (7/26/2011) we learned of the death of our great friend Representative Bobby Franklin of Marrietta, GA.

Although I have spent a great part of my life speaking and educating about what we call THE AMERICAN VIEW of law and liberty and civil government, Bobby Franklin was a man who was “walking the walk” — putting into practice the Biblical worldview of the Founders of America and the Framers of our state and federal constitutions.

Very recently, during a break in his legislative agenda, Bobby spent ten days here in Maryland with our staff, helping us to complete the materials for our new IOTC courses on the subjects of the Constitution and the Duty of the Jury.

Andy Harris and the Bay

Posted on July 22, 2011 by Michael Anthony Peroutka

I usually try not to center my commentaries on specific politicians or specific legislation.

Today will be an exception.

In a recent editorial the Baltimore Sun sharply criticized Maryland Congressman Dr. Andy Harris for his vote to limit the authority of the federal government with regard to enforcement of what is known as “The Clean Air Act”.

Casey Anthony Jury

Posted on July 15, 2011 by Michael Anthony Peroutka

The verdict in the trial of Casey Anthony caused a very strident reaction among the media talking heads. Casey Anthony, you may recall, was found NOT GUILTY of the murder of her daughter. It seemed clear that many media figures were very distressed by this since they had been pronouncing her guilty on their TV and radio shows for weeks.

The Jury obviously didn’t agree with the media managers.

Tea Party

Posted on July 6, 2011 by Michael Anthony Peroutka

Today I heard a radio talk show host refer to what he called the rise of the Tea Party and the re-emergence of conservatism. What caught my attention was the impression he gave that these two things are the same thing — or even similar things.

Now he may be right, that is to say, that the Tea Party movement is an example of a return to conservatism. But I sure hope that he is wrong.

Let me explain.

  • What is this American View?

Briefly stated, "The American View" of government is that there is a God, the God of the Bible, our rights come from Him, and the purpose of civil government is to secure our rights.

There are many views of government, from equally numerous world views. Americans are blessed that our Founders' Biblical Worldview informed their political philosophy and the framing of our founding documents.
